18 Dec New Update for Google News – Google News Carousel Deprecated for Desktops
Google moved to another minor update following November 2021 update that affects news publishers and media websites. Specifically, Google’s update changed the appearance of top stories in serps for desktop devices in a gallery like view; removing the classic carousel view for SERPs of trending topics.

The other news format of google news are the 4-pack and the 6-pack, showcasing lesser trending queries.

Expect the visual part, Google aims to showcase different stories for the same query in its SERPs in order to statisfy user intent and offer to its users “a more informed decision on which specific articles they want to explore”. Read more about Google’s statement:
